PREVIEW: Throne Of Darkness

Projected Release Date: Spring 2001

It's no wonder that Diablo's success spawned clones. When a game generates that kind of money, it's bound to inspire some copycats who want a piece of its fiscal pie. What *is* amazing is that it hasn't spawned more clones.

Click Entertainment, which is headed by ex-Blizzard employees, is preparing to do its part in rectifying that oversight, and that tool of rectification is Throne Of Darkness, a Diablo-esque action/RPG flavored with Asian seasoning.

Here's the story: The land of Yamato was once peaceful, ruled by a wise and benevolent shogun named Kira Bennosuka. Bennosuka treated both gods and people with respect, and stayed away from blue-suited interns. His son, however, was a shogun of a different color. The boy called himself Kira Tsunayoshi, and, when he assumed the throne, all hell broke loose. The guy lived a life that would have made Jim Morrison look prudish, forsaking his responsibilities and trashing the gods. Well, the gods, being immensely powerful and god-ish in nature, didn't take kindly to being forsaken.
