Mercedes
S-Class
|
Here is the car that
wins the executive award and here, too, is a car in with a shout of
taking the overall title. Here is the Mercedes-Benz S-class. Anyone
who has ever driven the previous model, but not the new, might find
all the excitement hard to believe. Admittedly, the old model did a
very good job of getting businessmen from
A to B in high levels of
comfort, luxury and safety. But it was also big, heavy and unwieldy,
the kind of car that was more enjoyable to sit in the back of
than drive. Our first
experience of the new S-class was a very big shock. For a start, it
is handsome and sleek, adjectives that could never be used to describe
the bloated, barn-like presence of its pre-decessor. But then the
new S-class is shorter, narrower and lighter and - in some instances
- less expensive too.
